Demo Import Troubleshooting
In case your hosting service does not support the automatic demo import explained in the previous article or if you are encountering an issue with the “One click demo import” plugin, you can read this article to find a solution.
It may happen that your hosting provider has restrictions or blocks that will not allow you to load the necessary files to import the demo correctly. In the 99% of cases, you can solve this problem by opening a ticket of support with your hosting service and ask them to remove these restrictions. You can find the most common errors in this list, provided by the plugin “One Click Demo Import”.
If your hosting support service cannot remove these restrictions, you can either choose another hosting (and here are our Hosting Recommendations) or follow the manual procedure explained below.
Before proceeding with the article, we would like to remind our customers that the manual demo import is not included in our support service at Sparrow&Snow, being a problem caused only by some hosting services. We offer this service only in our “Demo Setup” packages, so if you want us to do it for you within 24 hours, you can see more information at this link.
Manual Demo Import
The first thing to do is to download the .zip with the necessary files at this link.
Every demo will have 3 files:
- freyja_demo1.xml (to import posts, products and example images)
- freyja_customize_demo1.dat (to import the settings for the Cpanel)
- widgets_demo1.json (to import the example widgets for the sidebar)
2 – To import the .dat file, you will need to install the plugin Customizer Export/Import.
Go to Plugins > Add new, and search for “Customizer Export/Import”. Install and activate the plugin.
Now that the plugin is activated, you will find in Appearance > Customize > Export/Import the panel where you can upload the .dat file.
3 – To import the .json file instead, you need to install the plugin Widget Importer & Exporter.
Go to Plugins > Add New, and search for “Widget Importer & Exporter”. Install and activate it.
After activating the plugin, go to Tools > Widget Importer and Exporter > Import Widget and upload the .json file.
4 – DONE! The manual import is completed and your website is ready to go with the demo in place.
