Welcome to Freyja Pro 5
Freyja Pro 5 is not simply the latest update of the Freyja theme, but a whole new WordPress theme, with unique advanced features and styling options. It is based on the old Freyja theme, but it is so much more. All our Freyja customers can download this great update directly from their marketplace and install it into their websites with no additional fee. Needless to say, We strongly recommend you to update to the newest version, to be (between the others) fully compatible with Gutenberg, WordPress 5 and Elementor.
How to move from Freyja 3 to Freyja Pro 5
If you are already using the old version of Freyja (prior version 5.0.0), we recommend you to follow these simple but important steps, that will let you update your website without hiccups:
1 – Perform a backup of your website. Some hostings have plans that do the backups for you, but in case your hosting provider does not have it, our recommended plugins are: BackWPUp and UpdraftPlus. Both plugins are free or with premium (paid) versions. We think that the free versions are sufficient for standard websites, but in case you are interested in more advanced features, be sure to check also their premium plans. You will find an interesting article at this link.
2 – Activate a maintenance plugin (or a coming soon page) while you work on updating your website.
3 – Take some screenshots of your website pages and posts, which will help you in resetting the correct layouts after the update (in particular header, blog, single post, and widgets).
4 – Download the new Freyja Pro 5, install it and activate it. You can find more information on how to manually install your theme at this link.
5 – At this point, you would need to delete the following plugins that are no longer needed and could create conflicts:
- Advanced Custom Fields
- Advanced Custom Fields: Option Page
- Advanced Custom Fields: Repeater Field
- Vafpress Post Formats UI
6 – Be sure that the following plugins are installed and activated:
– Freyja plugin Add-on
(Here you can find the full list of recommended plugins)
7 – Register your theme to activate all its features by following this tutorial.
8 – Check your pages, posts, layouts, and settings (by using also the screenshots previously taken) and control that everything is displaying correctly.
(Tip! A good practice is to work on a staging website before publishing it. SiteGround has a built-in Staging tool in cPanel that allows you to create and modify development copies of your WordPress websites. Its easy push-to-live functionality will publish the development copy to the live version of your site. Prior to publishing your website, the tool will create a backup of your live copy that you can use later to recover an earlier version).
